Dalgaon Village on a Rainy Day of Spring

A drive into Spail Valley

On a rainy day of Spring in Rohru, on my evening drive, I took a right turn at Kansakoti into the beautiful Spail Valley. I crossed Kutara, Khashkandi and Dalgaon villages and was on a dirt track towards the forest. On enquiring where the road was going from a local man, I found out that he knew my family and we had a short conversation about the Dalgaon village.

A pickup truck drove past us and soon as our conversation ended I drove towards the forest behind that pickup truck. The road got a little muddy and on one uphill corner, the rear end of his truck slid slowly towards the wall. He got stuck.

After towing the truck out, Mr. Sanjeev Negi, the owner of the truck offered to show me around the village but first, we had to drop a lady to her house further ahead on the road. The generous lady then invited me for a cup of tea in her beautiful wooden house overlooking Spail valley.

Mr. Negi then took me to the village temple of Bakralu Devta designed in the Traditional Himalayan Tower Architecture.

After another cup of tea at Mr. Sanjeev Negi’s house in Dalgaon the evening ended with conversations about the traditional way of life and apple crops.
